Breastfeeding Difficulties Resolve After Chiropractic

The World Health Organization recommended that infants be breastfed for the first 6 months of life, with continued breastfeeding along with compatible foods for up to 2 years or more.

The American Academy of Pediatrics agreed that increased duration of breastfeeding provides significant health and developmental benefits for the child and the mother. The benefits for children include decreased number of ear infections, gastroenteritis, lower risk of obesity, and lower risk of asthma.

The current study involved a four-week-old female infant who was unable to effectively latch onto her mother’s left breast when held in the traditional cradle position or any other position. Her mother reported that chiropractic care was recommended by a lactation specialist, but her mother was unable to schedule an appointment until the following week. Otherwise, the patient appeared to be healthy with no abnormalities in her neurological and orthopedic tests.

The doctor of chiropractic found that the patient had a left head tilt and a total body posture that leaned to the left. By examination with palpation, the doctor of chiropractic found tight muscles in her right jaw joint, left neck and middle back areas. In addition, the doctor of chiropractic found several misalignments in the patient’s sacrum, middle back, neck, and cranium.

The infant began chiropractic care and was adjusted using the full-spine Diversified chiropractic technique (high velocity, low amplitude thrusts) adjusted to her weight and age. An infant toggle head piece was used for her neck misalignments. The toggle headpiece delivers an adapted neck drop mechanism which allows the adjustment to be gentle with a low force.

The toggle piece was also used to adjust the patient’s cranium and upper-middle back areas. Lastly, her right jaw was adjusted using a sustained contact technique.

After the patient was adjusted, a post visual analysis of her neck region showed an increased right rotation of her head and decrease in left head tilt. Post-palpation demonstrated a decrease in previously noted tight muscles of her right jaw and left neck region.

Breastfeeding was attempted right after her adjustment. The patient’s mother reported that she was able to latch perfectly and latched without interruption for 30 minutes. She had been scheduled to be seen twice a week until the latching issue was completely resolved. Her mother returned the next week and reported the patient’s inability to latch on her left breast had completely resolved.

Chiropractic Atlanta – Bruce Lee and Chiropractic

When considering going to a chiropractor, many visualize a Bruce Lee movie.

This is far from the truth. Chiropractors are highly trained to safely provide an adjustment to the spine.  The unique and specific goal of the chiropractor is to remove the interference between the brain-body communication networks. This interference is called a subluxation. When corrected, pressure is removed, allowing the body to communicate better and heal itself. And there are many ways to do it and some methods are gentler than others. Depending on the patient, some techniques can be more affective for different body types and health conditions. Therefore, it is vital to have a complete chiropractic exam to determine which type is best for you.

Many things can influence the type of chiropractic care you may receive and because most doctors of chiropractic know many techniques, you can often let the doctor know if there is a method you prefer; making your visit to the chiropractor even more enjoyable. We are open to your suggestions and at our Chiropractic Atlanta office we use a method to assess your ability to function optimally and determine the most efficient way to help you. We are at your service.

The doctor may have been exposed to and enjoy techniques for children, for elderly, for athletes or for accident victims. Sometimes the technique used is the one they personally benefited from the most.

My goal was to learn 10 different ways to adjust a spinal segment. My personal technique combines everything I have learned. I call it the “Dr. Weil Technique.”

Generally, there are three basic categories of spinal adjustments. Each of these categories can be applied in many ways.

The first is a very common approach called “osseous” adjusting. This is when you hear the popping noise. Even with this procedure there are many variations because the vertebral segment can be adjusted from many different positions and angles. The chiropractors training and experience defines the success of the correction.

Another category is “light touch” adjusting. These techniques are more focused on the tone of the muscles. They are also appreciated by the high strung, the elderly and the kids. Often the adjustment is done using the amount of pressure to test a peach for ripeness.

The next type of adjusting involves mechanical instruments. Instrument adjusting can have many advantages that include, accuracy of force applied and repeatability. These techniques can lack that special something that can only be transmitted from human touch.

Aside from feeling better, a follow-up protocol is the only way to determine what has and will continue to work best for you. Our Chiropractic Atlanta office uses an advanced abstract functional assessment score to track your improvement. Call our office for your check-up today.  404-350-8000

To summarize, be sure to choose your doctor wisely. Use someone who does a complete chiropractic exam and has a method to follow-up with your improved function.

Changing Your Mental State

Dr Weil, Chiropractor, Atlanta, Georgia, Buckhead, Georgia Tech, Healing, CaringChanging your Paradigm or Mental State of Being:

You are in charge of you mental state!

Here is an exercise.
Think of a time when you were wonderfully happy. Now ask yourself… how was I breathing at the time? What was my facial expression? Was I smiling, laughing, screaming, or maybe confidently smirking? What was my posture like? Was it slouched or straight? Was I excited? How was I moving? Was I bouncing on my toes? What were my eyes focused on? Were they laser focused or darting around? Take note of these things.

NOW… when you are down and out, change your PHYSICAL states to the same things you noticed when you were happy. You can’t be sad or depressed and have all of those physical expressions.

So, smile, stand tall, breath faster, get excited, now notice how you feel, and do this until it becomes a habit.
